Growing Concern Over Payday Loans ? Are They Valid?
Both in the US and the UK, government agencies have been releasing statements that warn people over the danger of taking out payday loans. The natural reaction of the average person would be to just nod his head and say, well, they are the government after all. They would have some basis to release such statements.
I would tend to agree, but only in part. The statements regarding payday loans and their risks are indeed partially true. The greatest danger, in fact, lies in the high interest rate that one ends up paying. Yet that is part and parcel of a payday loan.
People take out payday loans because of the fact that they cannot get a loan in as little time as one can with a payday loan. They know about the high interest rate that comes with a payday loan.
Herein lies the contention of the authorities – there are online payday loan providers that do not disclose all the fees and charges that they apply. And this is my answer to that – be a responsible consumer! There will always be bad apples in the barrel. People should be responsible enough to get all the information they need in order not to be victimised by unscrupulous people.
I would say that yes, the concern over payday loans are valid but only because consumers are not as vigilant as they could be. Payday loans have a purpose and they can be used to our advantage. Let us not enter into any agreement without fully knowing what we are getting into. And if the deal looks shady – abandon it and go somewhere else.
